Massage Away Chronic Pain

Are you a Massage Therapist? I teach an online class at Aromahead Institute called “Aromatherapy for Massage Therapists.”

This is a great blend of essential oils for pain relief, especially chronic pain that’s accompanied by swelling and feels a little cool to the touch. (The essential oils in this blend are warming, so are best used for pain that feels cool, or that comes on during cold weather.)

I’m blending the essential oils into a base of Trauma Oil. Trauma Oil is a skin nourishing, pain reducing oil made by infusing three herbs (arnica, calendula, and St. John’s wort) in a base of carrier oil—usually that’s olive oil.

Trauma Oil is amazing all by itself, but I’m adding essential oils for pain relief to take this blend’s effects up a notch.

I’m using a 1 oz (30 ml) cobalt blue glass bottle, and filling it almost all the way up with Trauma Oil. (1:42).

Then I’m adding four essential oils for pain relief:

5 drops Ginger (Zingiber officinale) (2:37)
3 drops Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) (3:26)
2 drops Orange (Citrus sinensis) (4:00)
7 drops Spike Lavender (Lavandula latifolia) (4:25)

The Spike Lavender didn’t want to come out of the bottle . . . and then it came out quickly!

Close your bottle, give your blend a gentle shake, and then massage it into areas that feel achy, swollen, and painful. You’ll find these essential oils for pain relief feel warming and encourage circulation, which can feel so good to “cool pain.”
